MGM has found their voice cast for their animated take on America’s favourite macabre family, The Addams Family.
Oscar Issac will be voicing Gomez Addams, and he will be joined by Charlize Theron as Morticia, Chloë Moretz as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, and Bette Midler as Grandmama. Allison Janney will voice arch-nemesis Margaux Needler.
The project was announced last December with Isaac attached to voice Gomez. Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon will be co-directing the project with Greg Tiernan.
Matt Lieberman wrote the script, which follows the kooky Addams family as they face-off against a crafty reality-TV host voiced by Janney while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration, Addams-style.
This will be a brand new take on Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoon series. It has been adapted into animation, television, film, and on the stage ever since its debut in 1938. The most notable adaptations would be the John Astin-Carolyn Jones led TV series in the 1960’s and the Raúl Juliá-Angelica Houston led films in the 1990’s.
Jonathan Glickman, president of MGM Motion Pictures Group said,
“Conrad and Greg are masters of animation with the keen ability to create something both kids and their parents will enjoy for different reasons. Adding to that a world class caliber of talent with Oscar, Charlize, Chloë, Finn, Nick, Bette and Allison – we can’t wait to bring their fresh and modern take on The Addams Family to the worldwide audience”
The movie will introduce the Addams Family to a new generation. This charmingly dark family has been a cultural icon for many years, and it has been quite some time since we last visited them.
The Addams Family will frighten and delight audiences in theatres October 11, 2019.
