‘Ratchet & Clank’ Developer Insomniac to Unveil New Virtual Reality Game
In a developer spotlight video posted by Oculus Thursday, Insomniac Games has announced that they have been working on a new VR game, the full details of which they plan to reveal later this month on June 7th.
Insomniac Games, who are well known for “Ratchet & Clank” and “Spyro the Dragon,” are also working on a new “Spider-Man” game that will launch on PlayStation 4 in September. The studio has been pretty hush on the details of the virtual reality game but at the video’s end, you can see a slightly illuminated moon against a red background with the words, “Reclaim your world,” hinting at the possibility of a space setting, especially since the game developer said that it will “let players go wherever they want”. Lead designer Mike Daly had this to say:
“We’re gonna see a potential for movement and exploration that breaks out of the 2D plane. We’ve made some interesting discoveries, and for us it was just seeing the tip of the iceberg for how VR enhanced traversal in a way that couldn’t be done before. Plus, Insomniac said fans can expect a lot of other things the studio is known for — “crafting good stories, good controls, and a little bit of humor, maybe some tears.”
The video can be seen here.
