J.K. Rowling Already Working On Script For ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’

Warner Bros. currently has three more sequels to the Fantastic Beasts series planned after The Crimes of Grindelwald. It is still unclear if all these sequels are going to be about the rivalry between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. Based on the trailers from the next film releasing this November- it definitely seems like the Grindelwald conflict is just getting started. One of the only few people who more than likely has a firm grasp on where the five-film series will lead to is the person who is writing them- Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. The first Fantastic Beasts entry was her first outing as a screenwriter. With three more screenplays to write in her busy schedule, Rowling has just revealed that she is wasting no time.

Variety is reporting that Rowling has officially revealed that she has started work on the screenplay for the third Fantastic Beasts film via an online Q&A on her website. “I’ve just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, ‘Lethal White,’ and I’m now writing the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3,” she told fans. Besides her work in the “Wizarding World”, Rowling also writes crime thrillers under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Having just finished a crime thriller novel to only begin work on a screenplay embedded with fantasy sounds exhausting, but fellow writers know how thrilling it is to weave ideas on a page. Rowling is also playing the role of a producer on the Fantastic Beasts films. She took the time to answer a question from a fan of what she does in this role while also being the main writer.

“Warner Bros. and David Yates, the director, have always let me have my say, though not necessarily the final word. That’s true of all the producers, of whom I’m only one: our input is taken seriously but it is very much a collaborative effort. The director is ultimately responsible for everything that’s seen on the screen.”

She then revealed that the schedule on this new series can be quite “punishing”. She spoke of multiple sleepless nights while working on these screenplays in the Q&A. The last thing that she revealed was that after the Fantastic Beasts 3 screenplay is done- she will begin work on a children’s story that she has been developing for about six years. The story will be an original idea not set in the ‘Wizarding World”.
