‘Legion’ Renewed For Season 3 By FX
Get ready for some more psychedelics as FX has just renewed Legion for a third season. The acclaimed drama series from creator and executive producer Noah Hawley is expected to return in 2019.
There are still two episodes left in Legion‘s second season, as an additional eleventh episode was added midway through the season.
The next episode of Legion, “Chapter 18”, written by Noah Hawley & Nathaniel Halpern and directed by Dana Gonzales, airs Tuesday, June 5. The season 2 finale, “Chapter 19”, written by Hawley and directed by Keith Gordon, airs Tuesday, June 12.
Dan Stevens recently spoke with Marvel’s Earth’s Mightiest Show to talk about Legion and the musical aspects coming to the show.
On the series’ renewal, FX Networks and FX Productions president of original programming Eric Schrier had this to say:
“Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season. We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley’s achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling. We are also grateful for the contributions of our executive producers, John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Nathaniel Halperin, and Jeph Loeb with Marvel Television, as well as our outstanding cast and crew of this groundbreaking show.”
It’s unclear exactly when season 3 of Legion will air, as Hawley will be busy this summer directing his first feature film, Pale Blue Dot. That flick has Natalie Portman, Zazie Beetz, and Jon Hamm onboard to star, but one imagines Hawley will be back to steer Legion Season 3 after the film is completed. There’s also the prospect of more Fargo, which Hawley also showruns and which is due to air in 2019. It’s possible Legion won’t return until 2020 due to Hawley’s commitments.
Based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, Legion is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a man who believed himself to be schizophrenic only to discover that he may actually be the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen.
Noah Hawley serves as Executive Producer, along with John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Jeph Loeb. Writer Nathaniel Halpern is Co-Executive Producer. Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the executive producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning FX anthology series Fargo. Legion is produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television, with FX handling the physical production.
