Gina Torres ‘Suits’ Spin-off to be titled, ‘Suits: Second City’
Having announced the expansion of Suits, the long-awaited series spin-off led by Gina Torres officially has a name. Suits: Second City. Gina Torres, Doug Liman, David Bartis, and Gene Klein of Hypnotic are all set to be the executive producers on the show. The project will see Torres reuniting and collaborating with the Suits co-creator Aaron Korsch and showrunner Daniel Arkins.
The series will have Gina Torres reprise her role as the fearless and powerful Jessica Pearson. The character first graced the screen as the managing partner of New York law firm Pearson Specter Litt, until the season 6 midseason finale when Jessica moved to Chicago. Torres has continued to make a guest appearance all through season 7, however, the spin-off will have her continue her story as she navigates and “adjusts to the dirty world of Chicago politics”.
The title announcement was made on Monday at NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation with the Suits finale having served as a backdoor pilot for the spin-off. Details about casting and the premiere date are yet to be announced with Korsch describing the spin-off as a “distinct story that will be unique to the franchise.”
