Deadpool Takes Top Weekend Spot with A $125 Million Opening
This weekend Deadpool 2 opened with an estimated $125 million dollar opening with ticket sales from over 4,000 theaters across the United States and Canada. The film unseated the other Marvel box office giant Avengers: Infinity War after Avengers three week reign. Deadpool 2 is the second-highest debut of any R rated film second only to its predecessor Deadpool.
In addition to its huge domestic opening, over seas the sequel is projected to make over $176 dollars making its total opening world wide about $301 million.
The film cost about $110 million to produce and received generally positive reviews from critics. In addition, audiences gave it an A CinemaScore, suggesting that the film will continue its success in following weeks.
Avengers: Infinity War drops down to second place this weekend, grossing $28.7 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its domestic box office total to $595 million. The film will also add $84.4 million over seas, pushing its total worldwide box office to over $1.8 billion.
