5 Characters We Want To See In The ‘X-Force’ Film
Now that Deadpool 2 has finally hit theatres, it is time for us to think about the future. Even if the future of X-Men films is in limbo we, the fans, can still have some fun with the possible future of the franchise. Drew Goddard is currently attached as the screenwriter and director for Fox’s upcoming X-Force film. Deadpool 2 set up the idea of the team and established key members such as Cable, Domino, and Deadpool. The film also featured other potential members of the X-Force team. But without getting into spoilers, let’s just say those characters aren’t part of the final roster. This fancast will list some of the heroes we hope to see join Deadpool, Cable, and Domino in the X-Force team.
Big thanks to Britany Murphy for putting maximum effort into these graphics!
Let’s get this party started…

Morena Baccarin as Copycat
One glaring problem with the Deadpool movies is Vanessa: a powerful and compelling mutant who is reduced to being just Wade Wilson’s girlfriend. Although she is a fabulous girlfriend, she is more than that. Vanessa’s mutant name is Copycat and she is a shapeshifter. But for some reason, the creative team behind Deadpool has decided to not reveal this. Her potential mutation is set up perfectly in Deadpool. For a few minutes, Vanessa is in an airtight chamber undergoing the same stress as Wade, which is what triggered his mutation. The sequel should have run with that but unfortunately, it didn’t. To do right by Vanessa, the next course of action should be to bring her into the fold and let her be the mutant she is meant to be.

Caitriona Balfe as Siryn
Theresa Cassidy, a.k.a Siryn, is the daughter of Sean Cassidy, a.k.a. Banshee–a character introduced in X-Men: First Class, and subsequently killed off in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Like her father, she is a mutant that has sonic powers. She uses sonic screams for various reasons, such as echolocation, deflecting projectiles, and flying at the speed of sound. Unlike her father, Siryn is able to use her powers in ways that resemble the mythical Sirens. She is able to influence, control, hypnotize, and seduce others regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. Irish actress Caitriona Balfe is my top choice for the role. Her work on Outlander proves she is a capable actress that could really make Siryn more than just a sexy mutant.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Gambit
It’s no secret that Gambit is a priority for Fox. The Channing Tatum vehicle has been in active development for some time–the actor is also attached to the project as a producer. One thing is for certain: this project is bleeding excitement. Every development is met with eye rolls and rejection from fans. X-Force could be the best place to reintroduce the character (who was also ruined in the god-awful X-Men: Origins) and for fans to get reacquainted with him. I also propose a recast. I like Tatum, and he would certainly be interesting as Gambit, but the time for him to play Gambit has come and gone. I would like to see Kelvin Harrison Jr. take on the role. He is an up-and-coming young actor and a New Orleans native. He is charismatic, charming, and handsome af. He has the energy and talent to make Gambit the larger-than-life character he is meant to be.

Ryan Gosling as Angel a.k.a “Pigeon Wings”
Finally, we have Warren Worthington III, a.k.a Angel. Angel (or Pigeon Wings, as Deadpool so affectionately calls him in Deadpool 2) is a character that has not been given a chance to shine in recent adaptations. Ben Foster and Ben Hardy both played the character in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Apocalypse respectively. His mutant ability makes him a real-life angel, and who better to play him than another Canadian Ryan. Ryan Gosling playing Angel is a stretch, but imagine how awesome it would be if it were to happen, as well as all the jokes that could come out of it. Also, who wouldn’t want to see Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds on-screen together?

Brianna Hildebrand is Negasonic Teenage Warhead
Bonus: Negasonic Teenage Warhead was once an obscure character in the X-Men comics. The screenwriters wanted to use the character in Deadpool because they loved her name. They also wanted to have X-Force member Cannonball’s power set in the film, but found that this goth teenager should possess them instead. Cannonball is a mutant who can generate thermo-chemical energy and release it from his body. Since this is now Negasonic’s power set, she should take Cannonball’s place on the X-Force team. Adding her to the team will also give actress Brianna Hildebrand the much-needed screen time she deserves!
That’s it. These are 5 characters make up a wonderful team of badass heroes. Who knows when X-Force will come to be, but if it does, I hope Drew Goddard sees the value of having some of these characters on his team.
