Batwoman to Debut in Next Arrowverse Crossover

The CW upfront presentation is presently underway and the network has wasted no time in unveiling big news. The Green Arrow himself, Stephen Amell took to the stage and announced the forthcoming arrival of an iconic DC hero–Batwoman debuts in the Arrowverse this fall. Amell’s statement, via Entertainment Weekly, is as follows:

“We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character. For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming it.”

Batwoman isn’t the only new addition to the expansive television universe; a visit to Gotham City is on the cards as well. The famous DC metropolis has been name dropped on Supergirl and loosely referenced on Arrow, but the impending crossover marks its first appearance. CW president, Mark Pedowitz said, “we are adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse. This will be another full-throttled, action-packed event.”

Specific details are, of course, being kept under wraps. Naturally, this raises a couple of major questions. First, is Batman still off the table? Second, might this set the stage for the return of Floriana Lima’s Maggie Sawyer?

Kate Kane aka Batwoman is a vigilante who works out of Gotham City, typically doing so in affiliation with the Batman family. In the comics, she’s also known for having relationships with detectives Renee Montoya and Maggie Sawyer. How much of her origin, which modern lore depicts her as an army brat turned socialite, will receive translation to the screen is currently unknown.
