Cathy Yan will be directing the film, which is scripted by Christina Hodson and Heroic Hollywood is also reporting that the production is expecting to hire an all-female crew.

Recently, while promoting her latest film, Terminal, Margot Robbie spoke about how she wanted a woman to direct the latest Harley Quinn adventure with the Birds of Prey. Robbie is not only reprising her hit role but is also producing the project through her LuckyChap Entertainment company. The actress/producer has been about improving women’s roles in the film industry, and hiring a woman director and an all-female production crew is a logical step for a film that boasts an incredible lineup of DC’s best superheroines. At this time, Warner Bros. has not confirmed this.

Currently,  the studio has their hands full as they gear up for Aquaman’s solo film debut on December 21. Also, Shazam! has just wrapped filming and will fly into theatres in April. 5, 2019. Another film on the studios’ filming docket is Wonder Woman 2, which will begin filming this summer with Patty Jenkins back behind the camera. The studio is also said to be developing more films featuring Harley Quinn: Gotham City Sirens, Suicide Squad, and a Joker/Harley spin-off.

Warner Bros. has a lot cooking, but Birds of Prey looks to be on the right track. Hopefully, more news will surface in the coming weeks or at San Diego Comic-Con this July.
