Hulu Considering ‘Brooklyn 99’ Renewal
Fox has officially confirmed the cancellation of one of its most highly-regarded shows, Brooklyn 99, which led to a massive fan reaction. Earlier today it became the number one trending topic on Twitter, with celebrities like Mark Hamill, Seth Meyers, Lin-Manuel Miranda and even Guillermo Del Toro tweeting about it.
Due to this major reaction, fans of the cop show are wondering if another network might pick it up. Some fans were tweeting at Netflix, while others begged Fox to reconsider, but Hulu might be the one to actually do it. The network is no stranger to this, as they famously picked up Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project after being cancelled by Fox. Another reason fans are hopeful might be that Brooklyn 99 is produced by Hulu’s corporate siblings Universal TV and 3 Arts Entertainment.
TBC could also be the show’s new home, as they recently acquired the off-network rights. Kevin Reilly oversees the network, and he personally developed and picked up Brooklyn 99 during his time working at Fox. This season, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was Fox’s highest-rated live-action comedy series among adults ages 18-49, with a loyal fanbase that does most of their watching via streaming platforms. Regardless of what happens, fans of the show will remain optimistic.
