This Thursday, FOX announced that the praised Brooklyn Nine-Nine had been cancelled after five seasons in the air, alongside the comedies The Mick and Last Man on Earth, with the last two ending their seasons in cliffhangers that now will never get resolved.

Although this was not the first time Brooklyn Nine-Nine feared cancellation, their ratings suffered a little due to the scheduling moves between Sunday and Tuesday –at first it aired on Tuesday nights and most recently on Sunday nights– as season 5 averaged 2.7 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in the key 18-to-49-year-old demo, lower than season 4, who received an average of 2.9 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among 18-to-49-year olds.

The comedy, starring the talented Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz, Chelsea Peretti, Joe Lo Truglio and more, followed the lives and stories of the detectives in the 99 police precinct in Brooklyn, earning Andre Braugher three consecutive Emmy nominations for Supporting Actor from 2014 through 2016.

Fans have been expressing their thoughts about this news on social media so maybe this isn’t the end of it. It wouldn’t be the first time either Netflix or Hulu picked up a series that was cancelled by a network before. We’ll just have to wait and see.
