Bad Boys for Life: Sony Sets January 2020 Release Date

After years of developmental issues and questions of whether the franchise is still a priority, Sony has officially revealed a release date for the third Bad Boys film. Bad Boys for Life opens in theaters on January 17, 2020.

Presently, additional details are scarce. A director, after The Grey’s Joe Carnahan exited the project last Spring, has yet to be named. Carnahan also penned a draft of the script. It is unknown whether Sony intends to use his version of the narrative for filming. What is public knowledge, however, is the return of both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in their leading roles.

During the series’ 15-year absence from cinema, another project in the franchise has received the green light. A spinoff television series (L.A.’s Finest), starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, is in production at NBC. A synopsis for the show features below:

In L.A.’s Finest, written by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier and directed by Anton Cropper, the free-spirited former DEA agent [Sydney] Burnett (Gabrielle Union) has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. She’s partnered with Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba), a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy. These two have totally different lifestyles and approaches, but they both are at the top of their fields in this action-packed, character-driven procedural.

L.A.’s Finest has yet to receive a series premiere date and time.
