The box office numbers keep growing as the days go by. Surely those who have seen the film can come to the agreement that this is because of the film’s high rewatch level. It only took Infinity War 11 days of global release to beat this record. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the previous holder of this title with a record of 12 days. Both films do share one thing in common when it comes to this record, they did not require a release in China to reach 1 billion. By Thursday Infinity War had passed the 900 million global checkpoint. On Friday it was calculated to be at $974.5 million. After Saturday’s numbers are finalized it will surely surpass 1 billion according to specialists.
This record also pushed Walt Disney Studios past 3 billion for 2018. With more films like Incredibles 2, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Mary Poppins Returns – who knows what Disney’s end of the year worldwide gross will look like? The question of Infinity War becoming the top-grossing film of all time is also still in the air. With China presales already coming in with big numbers and it continuously making money worldwide- surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar seems like a possibility. May is jam-packed with tentpole releases so the Avengers will have to prove that they have the legs to at least stand in the top 3 of the box office week.
