Isabela Moner to Star in Paramount’s Live-Action ‘Dora the Explorer’ Movie
Peruvian-American actress Isabela Moner has been officially cast as Dora the Explorer in Paramount’s upcoming live-action feature. The Transformers star will be playing a teenage Dora who goes on an adventure accompanied by Boots the monkey and her cousin Diego.
The Dora the Explorer movie will be directed by James Robin (The Muppets) and the screenplay is being written by Nick Stoller (The Muppets, Storks) alongside Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (New Girl).
In a statement from the studio’s new division, Paramount Players, president Brian Robbins said this about Moner:
“We are thrilled to have found our Dora in Isabela. Dora has long been a celebrated, strong heroine in animated television, and like Dora, Isabela has an incredible spirit and is an advocate for positive values. With our partners at Nickelodeon, we look forward to continuing Dora’s story for generations to come.”
Moner herself is pretty thrilled about bringing the character to life:
“I’m honored and excited to bring Dora to life. I grew up watching the show, and for me, especially as a Latina, Dora was an amazing role model — she is a strong, adventurous and fun-loving girl. I can’t wait to put on the backpack and begin her next adventure!”
Dora will begin production in Queensland, Australia soon and will hit theaters August 2, 2019.
