Dayo Okeniyi known for his role as ‘Thresh’ in ‘The Hunger Games’, is set to lead a Civil War-era historical drama titled Emperor. Helmed by Mark Amin and written by Amin and Pat Charles, the screenplay draws from the real-life story of Shield Green who chose to fight to end slavery after escaping plantation in 1859 and traveled north where he met Frederick Douglass and John Brown.
Having produced Miles Ahead, Mark Amin describes the film as such:
“…a story about the triumph of the spirit, about a man who was known as ‘Emperor’ in spite of the terrible circumstances he was born into”.
The project is set to be produced by Reginald Hudlin, Amin and Cami Winikoff. Filming is set to commence in June with Mary Vernieu set to be the Casting Director.
