The legendary Elton John is to get his own biopic titled ‘Rocketman’ which will be reportedly distributed by Paramount Pictures.Directed by Dexter Fletcher, whom recently took on the role of director in the Freddie Mercury biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. The film will star Taron Egerton ( Kingsman, Legend) with a script by Lee Hall, the feature is described as an ‘unvarnished rock n roll biopic’ stripping away at ‘the glitter’.The film is set to explore the musician’s journey as a prodigal student at the Royal Academy of Music to his legendary status, highlighting his dynamic musical partnership with Bernie Taupin, his songwriting collaborator.
Sir Elton John who released his first album in 1970 has gone on to become one of the most celebrated and successful artists in the industry, having achieved 38 gold and 31 platinum or multi-platinum albums.
Egerton whom during the press tour of the animation movie Sing expressed a desire to star in a musical will take up the role of Elton John and sing the songs himself. The film will see the star reuniting with Matthew Vaughn- director of the Kingsman movies who will produce the film along side Elton John and his Rocketman Pictures partner David Furnish. Production is set to begin in August.
