After the modest success of The Angry Birds Movie in 2016, Rovio Entertainment and Sony Pictures were quick to announce a sequel. Now, with the sequel only a year out, the film’s voice cast has been locked.

Set to star in the next chapter of the birds vs. pigs franchise are Leslie Jones as the villain of the film, along with Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Rachel Bloom, Dove Cameron, Beck Bennett, Zach Woods, Awkwafina, Brooklynn Prince, and Lil Rel Howery. The rest of the voice cast’s respective characters are still under wraps.

They join returning actors Jason Sudeikis as Red; Josh Gad as Chuck, the bird of speed; Danny McBride as the explosive Bomb; Bill Hader as Leonard, king of the pigs; and Peter Dinklage as the legendary Mighty Eagle.

The sequel is being directed by Thurop Van Orman and co-directed by John Rice. Peter Ackerman (Ice Age, The Americans), is writing the screenplay. David Maisel and Catherine Winder are executive producing the film. Returning producer John Cohen teased more cast announcements are coming very soon.

On the film, Cohen said, “I’m thrilled about our incredibly talented filmmaking team and the hilarious people we’ve brought together for the sequel. We’re so happy that Jason, Josh, Bill, Danny, and Peter are back for a second adventure joined by Leslie, Rachel, Sterling, Eugenio and this awesome ensemble of new talent.”

Angry Birds 2 flys into theaters on September 20, 2019.
