Ashland University Creates the First ‘Fortnite’ Scholarship
Fortnite’s legacy is going to be solidified in the form of a college scholarship. Ohio’s Ashland University is the first organization to offer a scholarship for incoming university students. As they note in their announcement, this will make AU the first collegiate eSports program to offer a Fortnite scholarship.
If you’re wondering about the choice, this isn’t the first game, or even the first university, to offer scholarships to proficient competitive players. Schools around the world offer scholarships for League of Legends, Overwatch, CS:GO and more – adding Fortnite to the lineup promises a pretty hopeful future for its position as an eSports heavy hitter.
The Ashland University eSports program offers scholarships for up to $4,000 based on player skill level, as long as they meet certain academic requirements. To qualify, players will have to prove themselves at open tryouts, which Ashland University’s team plans to start holding next year.
Do you think you’re good enough in Fortnite to qualify for a scholarship? Let us know in the comments!
