Sundance Comedy Starring Jason Mitchell Acquired By Magnolia Pictures

Back in January at the Sundance Film Festival, writer and director Sebastian Silva premiered his comedy, Tyrel. The film starred actor Jason Mitchell and boasts a star-studded supporting cast that includes Michael Cera, Chris Abbot, Ann Dowd and Caleb Landry Jones.

Now, a report from Variety confirms that Magnolia Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights to the film which is said to be released later in the year. Here’s what Silva had to say about partnering with Magnolia to deliver his film to the masses;

“I’m thrilled and honored that ‘Tyrel’ has found its home with Magnolia. We’re excited to have such a collaborative and creative distribution partner on board so that this film gets seen by as many people as possible. We believe the movie is timely and are hopeful that it will help continue to move the race conversation forward.”

Tyrel tells the story of a Black man named Tyler who goes on a weekend getaway in a cabin where he just so happens to be the only Black person in attendance. No release date has been confirmed for the film but we will keep you updated as more information is revealed. Does this sound like a film you’d want to see?
