After years of the series producing a detailed campaign storyline, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not have a single player story mode. An anonymous source for Polygon confirmed that the campaign mode “wouldn’t be completed” in time for the game’s release date.

When pressed for a response, an Activision spokesperson refused to comment on the speculation, saying that more information about Black Ops 4 would be revealed on May 17.

Whether a campaign will emerge as DLC or a future update. Instead, the game will focus on its Zombies mode, and on other multiplayer game modes. Activision also announced that Black Ops 4 will include (of course) a Battle Royale mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will come out on October 12 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC, though there are rumors of a Switch release later in the year.

This would make it the first iteration in the series with no dedicated campaign mode. Is the lack of a single player campaign going to turn you off from picking up Black Ops 4? Let us know in the comments!
