Cathy Yan Will Direct ‘Birds Of Prey’ For Warner Bros, With Margot Robbie As Harley Quinn
Producer and director Cathy Yan has been tapped by Warner Bros. to direct Harley Quinn’s next appearance in the DCEU, the adaptation of the Birds Of Prey comic book, with Margot Robbie attached to star.

With this, Yan becomes the third female filmmaker to join the DCEU, with Patty Jenkins being the first with Wonder Woman and Ava Duvernay the second with The New Gods adaptation, and the first female Asian director to ever direct a superhero film.
This will also mark Yan’s first big-budget film, as she’s directed just one small-budget indie movie, Dead Pigs, a film that won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance last January. However, according to a Deadline report, Yan’s presentation for Birds of Prey was exceptional, and Robbie held firm to her desire for this film to be directed by a woman.

With a script written by Christina Hodson, who wrote the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and just got hired to write the Batgirl movie, the film will focus on the team that Quinn forms with Black Canary, Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) and Huntress, although it’s not sure that all those characters will appear in the film.
The film will be produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap with Sue Kroll and her Kroll & Co Entertainment and Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures.
There’s no information as to when this film will begin production, but most likely will be at the end of the year after Robbie finishes filming Once Upon Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film that she’s in talks to star.
