Kendrick Lamar has made history winning the Pulitzer Prize for music from his album, DAMN.

Lamar becomes the first rapper to win the Pulitzer, marking the first time that the prize has gone to an artist who makes music outside the classical or jazz genres.

In addition to the Pulitzer, Lamar’s 2017 album, DAMN was certified 2x platinum by the RIAA and won Best Rap Album at the 60th annual Grammy Awards.

Earlier this year, the rapper made more history by curating the album for the Marvel Studios film, Black Panther; the first superhero film to be led by a predominantly Black cast. The soundtrack titled, Black Panther: The Album, debuted with a peak position at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and was also number one on iTunes.
