Emma Thompson, the actress who played the titular “Nanny McPhee” in 2005, is slated to direct the upcoming musical adaptation.

However, the this time Thompson will not play the nanny. The show’s casting for the nanny has, yet to be released. She is writing the lyrics for the stage version, with singer/songwriter Gary Clark who is composing the music for the show.

Thompson wrote the screenplay for the original film for Universal pictures where a magical nanny uses her powers to teach seven children how to behave while they are under her care. Thompson also wrote the sequel, Nanny McPhee Returns, with Christianna Brand, whose Nurse Matilda book series inspired Thompson’s screenplay.

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce the musical. While casting has not yet released the musical is slated for a 2019-2020 season release in the West End.
