According to recent sales records, Grand Theft Auto V has just become the best selling piece of entertainment media, ever. Coming in at a solid $6 billion in sales and growing, Grand Theft Auto V has topped every game, film, and book’s sales. Even adjusted for inflation, this beats Gone With The Wind’s all time sales by over $4 billion.
Doug Creutz, a market analyst, broke it down for MarketWatch:
Though the game came out in 2013, it still finished 2017 as the 6th highest selling game of the year, even with a year filled with great new titles like Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Since its initial release on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the game has gained a 998% increase in sales.
These numbers come from an aggregation of the copies sold, and doesn’t include the amount spent on in-game purchases for gear, money, or new cars.
