It looks like Twentieth Century Fox is really taken their upcoming X-Men films very seriously as its being reported that the release dates for both films have been pushed back. This will be the first release date shift for X-Men: Dark Phoenix and the second for the teen-horror New Mutants.

Dark Phoenix had an original release set for November 22, 2018, just in time for the holiday film rush but has now been pushed back three months and will come out on February 14, 2019. February is turning out to be a good month for Superhero films with the success of Black Panther and also because it’s the exact date that the first Deadpool movie came out and garnered critical and financial success.

New Mutants original release date was set for April 13, 2018 but was pushed back to February 22, 2019 for reshoots and to add a new character to the film that wasn’t in it before. Now the film will be released on August 2, 2019. That’s nearly a year and half past its original release.

The question becomes ‘why the date shift’? Are the studios not confident in the story? Maybe to add more action? Could the success of other Comicbook based films have the studio SHOOKETH? Who knows?! But at least the filmmakers are approaching the material with great care, wanting to release the best film possible and if that means extensive reshoots and a new release date — I’m sure many X-Men fans will be understanding. Only time will tell if the reshoots will pay off.

  1. Do we dare hope that it has something to do with the mcu?

    1. Thats an interesting theory. But i doubt Feige and his team would include any of the previous actors in their universe for the sake of trying to distinguish their world FAR away from Fox’s world
