After an a successful run this weekend, Universal Pictures’ and Legendary Entertainment’s Pacific Rim: Uprising took the top spot at the box office this weekend after grossing over $28.8 million in both Canada and the United States.

While the film is doing quite well its seems to be trailing its predecessor which received $37.3 million in its first weekend run and went on to gross over $411 Million world wide. However, Pacific Rim: Uprising is projected to make close to $122.5 worldwide and is estimated to make over $65 million in China where the franchise is extremely popular.

The film is directed by Steven S. DeKnight and is produced by original Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro. The film stars John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, Jing Tian as Liwen Shao, Scott Eastwood as Lambert and Rinko Kikuchi returning as Mako Mori.
