Gina Rodriguez cast as Carmen Sandiego In Netflix Live-Action Movie
Last year, Netflix announced plans for a 20-episode animated Carmen Sandiego series with Gina Rodriguez voicing the iconic character. Now, it has been confirmed that the streaming giant has no plans of stopping there, as they have acquired the rights for a live-action feature film starring Rodriguez herself. She will also be producing through I Can and I Will productions alongside Kevin Misher and Caroline Fraser. Andy Berman is set to executive produce.
The movie will follow Carmen’s adventures and it will reportedly stay true to the original content from the 90’s. There has been no announcement as to who will write or direct the movie yet. This is not Rodriguez’s first voice acting gig, as she voices the lead role in the upcoming animated film Small Foot alongside Zendaya, Yara Shahidi and Channing Tatum. The Jane the Virgin star is also making her way into more feature films–she just recently starred in Alex Garland’s Annihilation and is also appearing in Catherine Hardwicke’s upcoming remake of Miss Bala.
A line of books from HMH (who owns the rights to all Carmen Sandiego properties) will launch in 2019 at the same time as the series and movie release.
