FX Abandons Plans for Donald Glover’s Animated Deadpool Series
Last spring FX announced plans to develop a Deadpool animated series with Atlanta’s Donald Glover and Stephen Glover at the helm. The series, which received a 10-episode order, has now undergone cancellation due to creative differences.
In a statement via Deadline, FX explains,
“Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series. FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on Legion, which will continue.”
Whether Marvel TV intends to pursue other options for the untitled show is unknown. Disney’s forthcoming acquisition of Fox further complicates matters; a deal prior to the acquisition’s completion would have to land at a Fox-branded network. In the event the series does find an alternative home, it is also unclear if the Glover brothers will be involved in the creative process.
As noted in FX’s statement, their partnership with Marvel still bears fruit in Legion. The acclaimed series returns for its sophomore effort on Tuesday, April 3.
