After the emotions of last week’s confession from Gambi and Jennifer’s discovery of her own powers, the Pierce family is trying to get back to some semblance of normal.

Jennifer is freaking out about her powers until Anissa tells her the truth about everything which leads to an even bigger tantrum. She’s mad at Jeff for lying to her for all these years.

Lynn and Jeff call Anissa out for not letting them tell Jennifer the truth. Lynn calls it disrespectful, which seems like a huge overreaction. They are acting very high and mighty like they haven’t been lying this whole time. Lynn compares keeping the Black Lightning secret to the Easter Bunny and Santa.

Jeff questions Henderson about the case against him and what the department is doing about Green Light. The family decides to dig into Alvin’s research to find out more about the drug. Jeff and Anissa head to city records to find prove of the conspiracy.

Meanwhile, Gambi is still looking for proof that Black Lightning was framed for Lady Eve’s murder. After his talk with Black Lightning, Henderson has taken some vacation days to investigate and follows some dirty cops, which is basically every cop in town.

Gambi is trying to reckon with his conscience after finding the bodies of the children with abilities he turned in 30 years ago. He tells Anissa about the lab and gives her a new suit. She now looks like the more current version of Thunder.

Lynn tries to defend her lying to Jennifer, who is having a hard time being different. She’s not interested in being a superhero, she just wants to live a normal life. It’s nice to see them finally give China Anne McClain something to do besides fight mean girls and text.

Black Lightning and Thunder take down the Green Light lab. Jeff meets up with the ASA head, played by Gregg Henry, who always makes a great villain. Henderson makes the save, but he still has a highly trained team of spec ops soldiers to take care of.

Jeff apologizes to Jennifer and says he will be more honest in the future. They hang out and watch The Princess and the Frog, because everyone loves Tiana.

It was great to see the show completely focus on the Pierce family and remind viewers what the show really excels at. Going forward the series should go this route and maybe veer away from the supernatural stuff. It has metahumans, that’s weird enough to start with.

Also happening around Freeland:

Lynn name dropped Vixen and Supergirl. Does this mean Freeland is actually on Kara’s Earth?

“That’s President Obama. It’s disrespectful to call him by his first name.” – Anissa as she and Jeff wear Barack and Michelle masks to intimidate a lawyer.
