Filmmaker, Ava DuVernay, is in the midst of making more history. Last year, she made history becoming the first woman of color to direct a film with a $100 million budget. Now, she’s on pace to direct another big-budget film, this time for Warner Bros. based on the DC’s New Gods comic books.

This marks the second time that Warner Bros. has enlisted a female director to work on one of their big budget superhero films.

Fans and followers of DuVernay know that the director revealed her favourite comic book character to be Big Barda. For those unfamiliar with Barda, she is a member of the New Gods and a former member of the Female Furies. Take a look at DuVernay’s tweet below:

The New Gods are a fictional race within DC Comics and were created by Jack Kirby. They made their first appearance in New Gods #1 in February 1971. After the old gods of mythology were destroyed, the New Gods came into being. Prominent New Gods in DC Comics include: Darkseid, Steppenwolf, Orion, Mister Miracle, Granny Goodness and Big Barda.
