Honestly, at this point, it’s not even a surprise that Black Panther continues to break records, but the film that is pulling in the numbers everywhere has done it again: it just passed The Dark Night as the highest grossing solo superhero film ever at the domestic box office.
The Ryan Coogler directed project earned $41 million this past weekend making its total surpass The Dark Knight’s $534 million and Tuesday’s numbers pushed the film into a whole new tax bracket at $1.108 billion, garnering the 19th highest grossing film of all time spot away from Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. Marvel currently owns the top-five highest grossing superhero movies of all time.
If Black Panther continues its current path of domination (and let’s be honest: it will), it’s next victim is going to be The Avengers and it’s only sitting about $50 Million away from Captain America: Civil War. The real question now is will it be able to keep its momentum when Avengers: Infinity War comes out next month? Guess we just have to wait and see.
