Alan Cumming to Guest Star on ‘Doctor Who’
Jodie Whittaker has only just taken a few steps into the shoes of the Doctor and she’s soon to face a new adversary. Alan Cumming (After Louie and Battle of the Sexes) will guest-star as the Doctor’s foe in this space-traveling, time-defying BBC series.
Last year in a tweet, Cumming announced an appearance on Doctor Who to come, but he never revealed his role.
Just noticed all the #FakeNews so so for the record I wasn't offered #DrWho twice. I've never been offered it, just been approached.

On a recent installment of Homo Sapiens podcast, Cumming revealed his involvement in the show. “I’m about to go and do an episode of Doctor Who. I’m so excited.” When asked if he will be playing a baddie, he replied, “Like a nice baddie. […] I’m James I, so I’m kind of like a dandy, foppy sort of coward who comes all right in the end. They said he might come back.”
Since King James I took the throne in England after the death of Queen Elizabeth in 1603, it seems likely that the Thirteenth Doctor will be taking a small trip to the 17th century.
