Stella Meghie’s latest feature has found its cast. Sasheer Zamata (SNL, I Feel Pretty), Tone Bell (Disjointed), DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), and Y’lan Noel (Insecure) have been cast to lead Meghie’s romantic-comedy. The Weekend. Actress-comedian Kym Whitley has also been cast, but her role is not been specified.
Meghie will be directing from her own script and the story follows Zamata’s character, an acerbic comedian, who finds herself on a weekend trip with her ex-boyfriend (Bell) and his new girlfriend (Wise). The trio get into a romantic entanglement with the arrival of another guest (Noel).
Aside from directing and scripting, Meghie is producing the feature with Homegrown Pictures’ Stephanie Allain and Mel Jones. This will be her follow-up feature to Everything, Everything, the adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s debut novel, starring Amandla Stenberg.
The Weekend will be shooting in Los Angeles, a release date has not been specified.
