Kristen Wiig Officially Cast in ‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel as Cheetah

Earlier this month, rumors started circulating that Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig was in talks to play the main villain in Wonder Woman‘s sequel, but it had been nothing more than speculation. Now those rumors can be put to rest, as director Patty Jenkins confirmed this morning on her Twitter account that Wiig had in fact been cast as Cheetah, one of Diana’s most prominent villains.

There have been multiple versions of the villain, but for those of you who might not be as familiar, Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva a.k.a. Cheetah is the current comic version of the character, and ever since she was introduced in 1987 she has been one of Wonder Woman’s fiercest foes. She has also made multiple appearances in the DCAU, in shows like the original Justice League animated series, Justice League Unlimited, and more recently in the web series DC Superhero Girls which is aimed at a younger audience.

Wonder Woman was one of 2017’s biggest hits, making over $821.8 million at box offices worldwide, so naturally there are high expectations for the sequel but with the incredible Patty Jenkins returning, fans shouldn’t expect anything less.

What do you think about this casting news? Are you excited to see Kristen Wiig take on a serious villain role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and don’t forget to share!
