Madeleine Mantock has been cast as the third sister for CW’s Charmed reboot. She joins Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffrey.
The reboot comes from CW’s Jane the Virgin showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman The pilot is written by Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin based on a story by Urman. Ben Silverman and Brad Silberling will direct the pilot.
The Charmed “fierce, funny, feminist” reboot centers on three sisters — Macy (Mantock), Mel (Diaz) and Madison (Jeffery) — in a college town who, after the tragic death of their mother, are stunned to discover they are witches. Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.
Macy will fill the Piper role as she is the oldest sister. She is practical, driven, and a brilliant geneticist. Sarah Jeffrey‘s Madison is the youngest sister, who is a bubbly freshman. Melonie Diaz‘s Mel is a passionate activist, who spirals after the death their mother. Ser’Darius Blain will play Galvin, Macy’s boyfriend. An aspiring filmmaker and is madly in love with Macy. Rupert Evans will play Harry, a professor who has an invested interest in the magical sisters, maybe he is their Whitelighter?
As audiences become more vocal about the lack diversity on TV, and as content about people of colour continue to succeed, casting like this will become a norm. This is a very exciting development for the show, and there is certainly more to come.
This will be the second time Mantock has worked on a CW show, but this time she will be leading. She played Astrid on the short-lived The Tomorrow People, and was part of AMC’s ensemble show, Into The Badlands.
The Charmed reboot is will be part of pilot season, and has not been picked up for a full season, yet.
