The Independent Spirit Awards were held today, just one day before film’s big night: the Academy Awards. Walking away with the top honour for Best Picture was Jordan Peele’s, Get Out.
Get Out was in a tough category with other Oscar nominated films such as: Call Me By Your Name, The Florida Project and Lady Bird. But not only did the film win the coveted Best Picture award, but director/writer Jordan Peele also won for Best Director.
Peele was up against Sean Baker (The Florida Project), Jonas Carpignano (A Ciambra), Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name), Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie (Good Time), Chloe Zhang (The Rider). Out of this list of directors, Peele was the only one given a nod for Best Director at tomorrow night’s Oscars.
