SOTD: Red Velvet’s ‘I Just’
Red Velvet is a South Korean girl group under SM Entertainment comprised of Irene, Wendy, Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri. The group often does two different concepts that play on their name Red and Velvet. The Red side is their more upbeat Pop tracks such as Dumb Dumb, Red flavor, Rookie, and Russian Roulette. The Velvet side is their smooth sophisticated side that consists mostly of R&B with tracks such as One of These Nights, Automatic, and Bad Boy. You’d think that it would be hard for a group to be able to balance two different genres of music, but Red Velvet does it perfectly.
On November 17, 2017, Red Velvet released their second album Perfect Velvet. This album is their first full length album to feature their glorious Velvet concept. The title track ‘Peek-a-boo’ as proven itself to be an infectious hit as it still sits in the Melon top 30 almost four months after its initial release.
Today’s song of the day is track number three from the album, ‘I Just’ is a charismatic number with a captivating melody and enjoyable beat. This is honestly one of my favorite B-sides on the album, right next to ‘Look (봐)’. I love this song because while being chill it’s also fun to listen to. Tbh I have a theory that the best time to listen to it is at 10pm OR while on night time drive. But yesterday night/morning, without warning, SM dropped the ‘I Just’ music video on us.
A random music video indeed. Enjoyable Nonetheless. I love the work Hitchhiker did for this one. The simplicity of having the girls just sitting in a van is brilliant. The song is so good that there doesn’t need to be an extravagant music video to accompany it. The music speaks for itself. As for the lyrics of the song one line stuck out to me above the rest:
It’s time to stop crying
