Rashida Jones To Script ‘9 To 5’ Reboot With Pat Resnick; Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin Looking To Return
20th Century Fox is in the early stages of a new version of the film 9 to 5, the 1980 comedy that focussed on three working women (Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin) who live out their fantasies of getting even with the company’s autocratic, “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” boss, played by Dabney Coleman… Something a lot of people can still relate to.
Sources from Deadline report that the studio is in early talks for creator Pat Resnick to team with a young writer — actress-scribe Rashida Jones is the one both the studio and creator want — to find a handle that can take a relevant and fresh approach to a young comedy audience.
Fox is also in talks with Fonda, Tomlin and Parton to reprise their roles in this upcoming film as it will focus on three young women dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace, who turn to the original trio for help in navigating and getting even with the course male higher-ups.
The film is set to be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Resnick and Jonathan Baruch of StoryBy Entertainment.
