Legends of Tomorrow S3 Ep. 12 ‘The Curse of the Earth Totem’ Review

This weeks episode of Legends is arguably the best episode in the series. It has everything that makes the show great. Action, comedy, a characters melodrama, but more importantly they’re moving the plot for the season forward.

Spoilers Ahead

The team discovers that Mallus and Darhk are after Totems. They possess the water totem with Kuasa while the Legends have the spirit totem, with Amaya as the bearer. The team set out to go on a mission to find the Earth totem that is hidden in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. However, Sara isn’t going on this mission, she has a date with Agent Sharpe or as we now call her on the show Ava.

The two characters actually have great chemistry and were nice seeing both characters spend some R and R away from their usual busy lives fixing the timeline and whatnot. I’m glad that they’re both going forward with their relationship and hopefully can make a life together, but this is Legends and things never go the way they expect them to.

Upon Nassau, the team head into a bar and pretend that Amaya is the Dreaded Pirate Queen Jiwe to lure out Blackbeard so that they may find the Earth Totem. Upon finding him, they run into Damien Darhk who takes Amaya’s totem away from her. It’s in these moments where Mick shines, by helping give the confidence to Amaya that she’s powerful with or without the totem.

Nate this episode has his moments but primarily takes a backseat, as well as Zari, who stays on the ship for the duration of the episode. Ray grapples with the fact that he almost killed Darhk’s daughter, especially since he helped her when she was younger. He creates an antidote for her life, but in exchange, he wants Amaya’s totem. Without hesitation, Darhk listens to him and when he heals her, she knocks him out, making him a captive, forcing the Legends to find him next episode.

Despite all the fun action and romance going on, the comedy comes from Wally West (who was teased at the end of the last episode) and Rip Hunter. Wally has been living a life of solitude until Rip brings him back into fighting… sort of. Rip kinda exploits Wally by getting him drunk and having him help with stealing time watch and his jacket. Afterwards, they sing nice karaoke duet of Careless Whisper. Rip tries to help Wally who’s been dumped by his girlfriend and wasn’t so useful for Team Flash, but Rip convinces him to be a Legend and Wally, without hesitation agrees!

The episode was loads of fun. Though some members of the team took a back seat, it was incredibly enjoyable and I for one can’t wait to see Wally West officially join the team.

What did you think of the episode? Episode Thirteen of Legends of Tomorrow airs Monday, March 5 at 8:00pm EST on the CW.
