Paddington 2 went on to become Rotten Tomatoes’ most critically-acclaimed film of all time, so it’s no surprise that director Paul King is on everyone’s radar. According to Variety, he is currently in talks to helm yet another live-action reboot of a Disney classic, this time being Pinocchio.

The remaking of animated classics has proven to be a hugely successful strategy for Disney Studios, with Beauty and the Beast making $1.2 billion worldwide and The Jungle Book grossing $966.5 million worldwide as well.

A star-studded live-action remake of The Lion King is currently in the works with the help of Jon Favreau, and Tim Burton’s Dumbo live-action remake starring Colin Farrell just wrapped production. Disney Studios is also developing a live-action Mulan and Sword in the Stone. King is also set to direct Warner Bros.’ upcoming Willy Wonka origin movie, so it seems like he’ll be having a busy 2018.

The Pinocchio reboot will probably be based on the original, in which the living puppet boy tries to prove to himself and his woodcarver creator Geppetto that he is worthy of becoming a real boy. Chris Weitz and Andrew Miano are attached as producers, and Jack Thorne is set to write the script.
