Netflix’s Sabrina Series Casts Miranda Otto As Aunt Zelda

Netflix Original’s untitled Sabrina project keeps growing in its cast, completing the Spellman family with the addition of Miranda Otto (Homeland, War of the Worlds, The Lord of the Rings and 24: Legacy) who joins as Aunt Zelda, leading the show opposite Lucy Davis‘ Aunt Hilda and Kiernan Shipka‘s Sabrina.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Aunt Zelda’s role in the family is “the sterner of the two witch aunts, Zelda serves as the family disciplinarian and fierce protector of Sabrina”, so basically the same character we saw in the sitcom Sabrina The Teenage Witch, from ABC and WB that air from 1996 to 2003.

This “reboot” of the popular sitcom will have a completely different tone and atmosphere than what audiences saw back in 1996, as Netflix show will be more of a dark, coming-of-age story in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, with Sabrina -a half-witch, half-mortal- who wrestles with her dual nature while fighting threatening evil forces.
