Joss Whedon Exits ‘Batgirl’ Film

It’s been almost a years since Warner Bros. announced that director Joss Whedon (Avengers) would be in charge of directing Batgirl solo film for the DCEU, but today The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the director has decided he’s not the one who should direct the film, as said by him in a statement.

Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to Geoff [Johns] and Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”

THR reports that sources claim Whedon, after a year of trying, could not crack the code of what a Batgirl movie should be about.

According to Tracking Board, Warner Bros. and new DC chief Walter Hamada are planning to hire a female filmmaker for Batgirl.
