Jay Hernandez to Star in ‘Magnum, P.I.’ Reboot
The classic 80’s show Magnum, P.I. is getting the reboot treatment over at CBS, and it appears that Suicide Squad’s Jay Hernandez will be playing the lead role. The Hawaii-based investigator was originally played by Tom Selleck, so it will be interesting to see what Hernandez does with the part.
This is one of several pilot orders at CBS–they have also ordered an adaptation of L.A. Confidential and a reboot of the female-led drama Cagney and Lacey. Hernandez will be playing Thomas Magnum, who is an ex-navy seal that returns home from Afghanistan and puts his military skills to good use as a private investigator.
Hernandez has been building quite the acting resume, with recent film roles in DCEU’s Suicide Squad as Diablo and in both installments of the Bad Moms franchise. He is also known for his roles in Friday Night Lights, Hostel and most recently Netflix’s Bright.
Hawaii Five-O‘s writer and producer Peter Lenkov is set to write and executive produce alongside Eric Guggenheim. The pilot will be directed by Justin Lin, who is executive producing as well. CBS Television Studios will co-produce in collaboration with Universal Television.
