Alfre Woodard to Recur on ‘Empire’

Emmy-award winner Alfre Woodard will be guest-starring on Fox’s Empire as Renee, Cookie’s mother, who returns for a turbulent reunion.

Empire will return with new episodes on Wednesday, March 28th at 8 ET/PT on Fox. The musical drama by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong centers on Empire Entertainment and the drama within its founding family. Taraji P. Henson plays Cookie Lyon, the ex-wife of hip hop mogul Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), who served a 17-year prison sentence and owns her own company.

Woodard has received an Academy Award nomination, four Emmy awards and 17 Emmy nominations, three SAG Awards, and a Golden Globe. Most recently, she appeared in 12 Years a Slave, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, Netflix Original Luke Cage, as well as the horror flick Annabelle.

Next, you’ll be hearing her voice grace Jon Favreau’s The Lion King as the voice of the lion queen herself, Sarabi.
