Mudbound co-writer/director Dee Rees is already working on her next her major project.
She is set to helm the politically themed The Last Thing He Wanted, with Anne Hathaway in talks to star.
At the tipping point of the Iran Contra affair’s arms for drugs plot, hardscrabble journalist Elena McMahon finds herself on dangerous ground when she abandons coverage of the 1984 presidential campaign to fulfill her bed-ridden father’s last wish.
The film, based on the 1996 book by Joan Didion, is being written by Marco Villalobos and produced by Cassian Elwes, who worked with Rees on Mudbound.
Hathaway’s busy slate of films features Ocean’s 8, out June 8, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake The Hustle, set to open June 29 and co-starring with Matthew McConaughey and Diane Lane in Serenity, which is scheduled for Sept. 28.
Mudbound is nominated for four Academy Awards including Mary J. Blige for best supporting actress, Mighty River for best original song and Rees and Virgil Williams for best adapted screenplay.
