Sicario 2 Director in Talks to Helm Call of Duty Film

The film division for Activision, Activision Blizzard Studios is moving full steam ahead with its plans for a Call of Duty film adaptation. Variety reports that negotiations are underway to tap Sicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima to helm the film.

Snowden scribe, Kieran Fitzgerald, is penning the script for the film whose producers include Activision Blizzard Studios’ presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk, Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick, and Coco Francini.

Presently, details concerning the film’s plot, characters, and setting are publicly unknown. However, Variety notes that producers Sher and van Dyk have previously discussed developing a movie franchise akin to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition, the producers have no intention of taking existing Call of Duty narratives and applying them to film. Therefore, an entirely original story is expected.

Neither a distributor nor a release date has been claimed.

Sollima’s Sicario 2: Soldado opens in theaters this summer on June 29.
