Chris Columbus has previously directed Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and has experience Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He’s also worked on adapting video game properties, as he directed Adam Sandler’s Pixels back in 2015.
Blumhouse has produced on several horror pictures, including Get Out, Insidious, and Split.
Columbus’ signing is pointing to the Five Nights movie being kid-focused, though Blumhouse has proved that it can handle the game’s survival horror genre. The series itself has expanded past games and into novels and toys, though whether the novels will serve as a basis for the film’s screenplay is unclear.
With a new director in line, who do you hope to see in a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie? Do you think Chris Columbus will stay true to the source material? Let us know in the comments!
