LeBron James Producing ‘House Party’ Reboot

Yet another 90s favorite is being given the reboot treatment. LeBron James is producing an updated House Party through his Springhill Entertainment.

He is producing with his partner Maverick Carter, while the script is being written by Atlanta’s Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori.

“This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie,” James tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Everyone I grew up with loved House Party. To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable.”

The classic 1990 comedy starred rappers Kid ‘N Play as they navigated a wild night of shenanigans surrounding a crazy house party. The film was written and directed by Reginald Hudlin and co-starred Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, A.J. Johnson and Robin Harris.

With music being such a big part of the original, Carter says they are hoping to get some familiar faces in the film.

“We’re trying out some ideas for musicians to be cast in and to be a part of the project,” said Carter.

House Party will join a Springhill slate that includes a Netflix limited series about Madam C.J. Walker with Octavia Spencer starring and executive producing, Drake’s Netflix series Top Boy and the NBC game show The Wall hosted by Chris Hardwick.

As for an appearance from LeBron in House Party, Carter says though it’s not planned, the door is open.

“There’s no plan for it now, but he’s a fantastic actor, and if he wants a role, Stephen will find a great role to put him in,” he said.

Will you see a new House Party?
