‘Monsters, Inc.’ World Confirmed for Kingdom Hearts III at D23 Japan
If you’re anything like us, you’ve also been desperately grasping at any announcement surrounding Kingdom Hearts III for the last few years. Well, today we are happy to announce another handful of KH snippets for us to nibble on while we (im)patiently wait for the game.
At D23 Japan, Square Enix released two brand new action-packed trailers, introducing new worlds, old characters, and more!
Last we heard, Kingdom Hearts III revealed its first ever Pixar world with Toy Story. In the new trailer, we’re exposed to another classic Pixar realm, Monsters, Inc. Sora, Donald, and Goofy are all transformed into strange, but charming, monsters as they meet up with Sully, Mike, and forever lovable Boo. I still prefer their transformation into toys over furry monsters, but I’m thrilled that Pixar will finally have a presence in this game, seeing as they’ve been a huge segment with Disney for some time.
Remember when we got a quick look at Rapunzel’s tower a couple years ago? Not only do we get to visit the golden haired princess, it looks like her and Finn both join into battle with you!
There is a gorgeous animation of Ariel as a Summon spell, which is slightly bittersweet. Although we can now special summon Ariel for some assistance in battle, this usually means the character will not be toting around in their own world. After swimming frustratingly in Kingdom Hearts, then playing an undersea version of DDR in Kingdom Hearts II, I think I’ve had enough of Atlantica and don’t mind leaving it out this time around.
Of course, Organization XIII is back with the appearances of Marluxia and Vanitas, both of which look unbelievably gorgeous.
Along with the trailer above, Square Enix has also provided us a second trailer for the new theme song by Kingdom Hearts alumni Utada Hikaru called “Don’t Think Twice.” If you stick around till the end, you’ll get a glimpse of a a conversation between (an updated!) Riku and King Mickey.
Seeing more of the gameplay and music come to life, I think we can finally believe them when they say “Coming 2018.” It’s reported that we will find out the official release date at E3 this June.
How do you like the new worlds that are shown in the trailer? Which ones are you most excited to immerse yourself into? Let us know in the comments below!
