Sam Raimi in Discussions to Direct “Kingkiller Chronicle” Film

Director Sam Raimi, known for his Spider-Man films is in discussions with Lionsgate and Lin-Manuel Miranda to direct the upcoming adaptation of Pat Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicle fantasy book series.

Lionsgate has yet to confirm Sam Raimi as director. If Sam Raimi is tapped as Director this will be his first film since his 2013 film Oz The Great and Powerful.

In 2016 Lionsgate met with Lin-Manuel Miranda to serve as creative producer and music writer of the film with writer Pat Rothfuss. Miranda also has options to be involved in possible upcoming stage productions of the story.

The film will based on the first book of the Kingkiller Chronicle series The Name of the Wind. The story follows the famous Kvothe, a swordsman, wizard, and musician, who survives a hard childhood to become one of the most famous figures in his world.

In addition to Lionsgate adaptation, Showtime is currently developing a Kingkiller Chronicle TV show based on the series.
